Funny finding this post now that I'm working with WebORB.net and Flex too. I've been wrestling with WO, and starting to think most of my problems is platform – VISTA Ultimate. As in, Ultimate nightmare. I finally got the default /weborb30 working ( everything except the Deployment tab ), and now I'm setting up a fresh site outside of the default install. Got all files in place, diagnostics says all is well, weborbconsole has no Management tab. Freaking awesome!

Hello!

I have problem with weborb for .net. I cant view the management or deployment bar either. I followed the steps in themidnightcoders guide (except step 6 and 7, that didnt work for me). I have Windows Vista Ultimate x86 with SP1 and .NET framwork 3.5 (SP1) installed. It works for my buddy. Another problem is that the whole menu gets blurred after a while and I get a error msg!

How do we deploy the flex appliation which is using weborb remoting with .net on shared hosting environment.

Yeah configuration of IIS is the biggest killer. But like any server software there is always alot of configuration to get things working. I wouldnt have a clue how to do ngnix under linux…..

If your after CRUD stuff for now…. try WebOrb's Data management, its like ActiveRecord, in that you create a database structure and generate flex model code from that:

Then if you want to go totally custom, get your .NET people at work to check out the Castle Project (ActiveRecord for .NET) Failing that they can just use metadata tags in their existing .NET Enterprise level ( over bloated ) classes ;)

Check out the "Full Crud" under Data Management (WDMF) Examples. WebORB is sweet. I especially like the Code generator calculate ROI feature and the licensing model they use.

I've been trying to get the 3.5 framework version of WebORB installed/setup on Win2k3Server for past few days. The Data Mgmt and Code Generator stuff is pretty cool (conceptually) but I've been having a ton of timeouts and SQL loops and it's really turned into wild goose chase after chase trying to figure out why something works, then it doesn't, then it does again. I almost wish they spent the time they used making the Data Mgmt console on documenting (or QA'ing) everything better or something. I'm having to do /iisresets multiple times a day to keep it running!

If I was prone to jumping to conclusions I would say that it sure seems like WebORB is intentionally designed/documented to be *just* buggy/cryptic enough for some folks to be forced to sign up for a support plan. :(

It's a cool product don't get me wrong – I'm just really frustrated with it at the moment because it comes off as "plug-and-play" like but in reality it's far from it.

Sounds like quite an experience. To be honest, I don't know much about anything that you're talking about. All I know is that I wholly comiserate with you ñ I'm no longer a Windows guy. I've moved over to Linux, and everything there is just so much more sweeter. It's not even half as non-user friendly as my windows lover buddies tell me (or, tried to convince me of.) It's a heck of a lot more simpler, and everything is just WORKING.

Well I posted something in the forums yesterday – but looking at the # of unanswered posts in the .NET thread, and considering the fact that my post hasn't even been approved to show up yet – I'm scared of how long it will take to get a response.

Do you really propose emailing Mark directly? While I am in desperate need of help, I question the notion of a 'non-paying' user directly requesting individual troubleshooting help from one of the developers (not that I'd turn it down!)
