The Strength of Social Proof
The original title of this post was, “Would you like a free copy of Space Rogues 2: I’ll have a Subtitle Soon, Promise (it’s a working title).” Catchier right? It’s also really long! LOL.
So back to the title of this post, Social Proof.
When you go to Amazon to buy a book, or a humidifier or a file cabinet, you look at reviews right? You look at the overall rating and scan the reviews. If you’re like me you weigh the good reviews with the more critical; you also look for the highest number of reviews. The more reviews you have available to look at the more likely you are to look at, let alone, buy that thing, right? I know that’s how I shop.
So here’s the thing, launching a new book is tough because it naturally has no reviews and no ratings. Any traffic I drive to the book might just move on because there’s no social proof the book is any good. Hence my asking for your help. If you leave a review, and everyone else does, and there’s a few dozen of them, when people find the book and see it’s got plenty of honest reviews, they’ll stick around, maybe read the blurb, maybe scan the reviews, hopefully, buy the book. That’s what releasing a book today looks like. A lesson I learned the hard way with Space Rogues 1.
That can be the difference between launching with only a trickle of sales and launching with many and staying relevant to Amazon longer, which is the goal. I could go into a long thing on how Amazon does things, but I doubt you care, and if you do, google it, there’s a ton of info out there.
So, here’s where you and the free copy of the book come in.
Space Rogues 2 is with beta readers right now. After that, I’ll be making any needed changes/tweaks; then it’s off to an editor. The cover is under construction right now. After that, It’ll go up on Amazon.
Once I’ve got the editor revisions done, you’ll get a copy of the book, in the format of your choosing (I’ll even have a few paper copies). You’ll have a few weeks to read before the launch. I don’t have a hard and fast date yet, but am aiming for mid-April. By signing up to be an advanced review reader you’re committing to read and leave a review. It’s hugely important, and I don’t want to waste your time or mine if you’re not able to commit to that.
The day before launch day I’ll email you and let you know so that you can leave an honest review on Amazon.
That’s it; you’ve done your part, enjoy your copy of the book. I’ll be hustling my ass off to drive people to buy their copy.
So how do you sign up? Easy, fill out this form.
