WIP Thursday– er– Monday 5/27

I know, i’m not very good at keeping on these. What’re ya gonna do? At least I’m not making you wait until this Thursday Anyhow, Space Rogues 5 is coming along nicely. A few minutes later Zephyr looks up from her console, “We’re clear of Tarsis space control. Half a tock to FTL distance.” “Cool deal.” Wil says, releasing his controls, activating the automatic flight control. “Be right back.” He gets up and leaves the bridge. Zephyr looks at Maxim who shrugs and looks at Cynthia. She also shrugs, “I don’t plan his every minute you know. I’ve no idea where he’s going.” Maxim looks at Zephyr, “See, partners don’t have to know where each other are every minute of the day.” Zephyr says nothing but doesn’t take her eyes…

Distraction

When I was in third grade a Yo-Yo master (I assume that was his title, if not it should have been) came to our school. I don’t know why, other than maybe to sell Yo-yo’s. He was amazing. Imagine the most amazing exhibit of skill with a tool like a sword or baton, now replace the tool with a yo-yo. It was something like that. So we had this assembly, all of us were wow’ed by the yo-yo tricks the master and his lackeys performed. Then it ended with “You can buy a yo-yo in back” or something like that. I don’t recall the specifics, it was 3rd grade after all. The key takeaway is that I ended up with a yo-yo. Not the one pictured, that’s my new yo-yo….

My City Trees Aren’t Dead!

I’m a big fan of growing things. The act and the things themselves. Last year I applied for free trees from the city of Denver. They have a program where they’ll come and plant a tree in a public right of way in front of your house. For whatever reason, the tree lawn in front of our new house had no trees. Part of the reason for the program is that Denver has a LOT of ash trees and it’s likely the emerald ash borer will eventually destroy them. I applied, I was approved, for TWO trees! I was assigned two bur oak trees. They planted them in September, like ninjas! I was home, never heard them arrive. At any rate, I had the trees. The compact you agree to…
