This was on Seth’s Blog last week.

I used to buy the newest iPhone every year, the latest kindle. I’d grab the latest this that or another thing. I’d buy a new gadget not because I needed it, but because it was new.
There wasn’t a single epiphany, chorus of angels type moment for me, but as I’ve grown, I just sort of stopped wanting more. I realized I had enough.
I’ve been fussing with our TV lately and realized it’s from 2008. It works fine. Would I like a fancy new shiny 4K TV? Maybe? When this one breaks down, I’ll certainly buy whatever is new.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not wearing a scratchy brown robe, sitting on a hilltop. I just bought a new AppleTV despite not needing it. The old one was fine. The new one had a feature I was interested in. No one is perfect :)
Anyway, what am I saying here?
That I wish more of us lived this way. Seth is right, it is freeing. To not feel beholden to the latest trend. To feel content with what you have. I feel like a lot of our issues (in the US, in the world) would be eased if more of us (Cough, millionaires, and billionaires) didn’t feel like, “Just one more house” would make our lives more whole.
So yeah, give it a try, maybe.
